On Thursday, selected pupils from Key Stage 3 were invited to the SmartAI talk in the Mathematics department as part of the Black Heroes of Mathematics Youth Festival. During the session pupils got involved in learning how AI gives accurate predictions based on Mathematics around probability. Topics discussed included how AI can predict the end of sentences based upon previous data, how AI collates the data to improve its prediction in the future and how computers think in numbers not words through assigning values in a matrix so they can spot similarities. The session ended with an opportunity for pupils to ask questions where the pros, cons, limitations, and dangers of AI were discussed.
