Beacon played against Grace Academy on the 19th of June. The game started off with K. Jacques scoring first for Beacon and the score was 1-0. However, Grace Academy came back in the first half and the half ended 5-1 to Grace Academy.
But it was not over...
The second half started and Beacon were not ready to give up. Within 2 minutes, Beacon found the back of the net through C. Turner and the score was now 5-2. With Beacon's pressure building on Grace Academy, the come back was on. With 20 minutes left to go, Beacon found the net again through the right foot of R. Cooper. The Beacon lads were coming back with a vengeance. Time was running out and Grace were still ahead by 2 goals, so Beacon with relentless pressure, managed to find the Back of the net yet again!
This relentless pressure paid off as C. Turner found the back of the net yet again and the players were full of excitement and determination to claw this back. One more goal would send the game to penalties. Unthinkably, late in the game, Grace Academy found a new sense of purpose and piled on the pressure. However, with the strong back line of K. Shergill, A. Hadley, J. Gillon and R. Silver, they were able to quickly put a stop to each attack.
In the dying minutes of the game, K. Jacques won a penalty and this was the chance Beacon needed to send the game to penalties. Calm and composed, C. Turner stepped up to the challenge and smoothly slotted the ball in the back of the net, to tie the game and secure his hat trick.
We had made it to penalties. The order was chosen and Beacon were confident they could secure the victory.
Beacon took their first penalty and the hat trick hero stepped up to the spot. Without any doubt, C. Turner put Beacon up 1-0. The pressure was on Grace and Barr Beacon pupils put faith in S. Bushell who stepped up as GK for the penalties. Unfortunately, with a diving effort, the ball slipped through the tip of his fingers. The score was now 1-1. S. chahal stepped up next and calmly put it past Grace Academy’s keeper to take us to 2-1. The pressure was back on Grace’s number 10 and as he stepped up, S. Bushell pushed it around the post giving the advantage to Beacon. The score was still 2-1. A. Hussain stepped up next to try and give Beacon a bigger advantage. However, with a diving effort from the keeper he saved the shot and this gave Grace the opportunity to get back into the shoot-out. Their winger stepped up and smashed it into the bottom left corner, making the score 2-2. We were down to the last 2 penalty takers from each team and the next penalty was taken by K. Shergill. With a nonchalant walk up to the ball he calmly slotted it into the back of the net. The score was now 3-3 and Beacon had the chance to win the game. The pressure was rising and Grace wanted to win the game with the next 2 penalties. The captain stepped up and put it past S. Bushell to level to score and put the pressure on our next penalty taker. K. Jacques stepped up to take the final kick for Beacon and there was nothing but composure. With a powerful strike, Kai slotted the ball into the bottom right corner giving Graces goalkeeper no chance to get down to the ball. The final result on penalties was 4-3 and Barr Beacon were champions!!!
Year 8 pupils visited a large Careers Fair in Wolverhampton, where they met with hundreds of employers and discovered new careers through interactive exhibits. Pupils were able to film a news report with the BBC, discover how special effects are created for film with Real SFX, change a tyre with Nacro, pull a pint with Marston’s, win treats for matching aircraft with Collins Aerospace, learn to play the drums with Wolverhampton Music Service, practise CPR with the NHS and even get their own fake bruise with Dudley College’s TV makeup experts.
Pupils said:
“I really enjoyed it. There was so much to do.”
“My favourite part was filming with the BBC. I was a bit nervous hearing my voice back though.”
“I have learnt about lots of jobs today but in a fun way.”
On Friday 21st June Barr Beacon School made the relatively short journey to take part in the annual Sports Day at Alexander Stadium. The day commenced with all participants taking to the track to run a lap to help them soak up the atmosphere and help prepare them for the events that lay ahead.
Throughout the day students displayed remarkable skill and determination in every track and field event ranging from the fast pace of the 400m to the explosiveness of the shot put with pupils working tirelessly to contribute to the ongoing house points total.
However, what made the day truly special was the unwavering camaraderie and sportsmanship on shown across all participants and Houses alike, as all pupils were cheered during their events regardless of the colour of their bib.
Special mentions must go to the following pupils who went above and beyond what was expected of them as they were able to go the extra mile and win several events throughout the day showing their dedication and resilience to do all they could to secure the house cup.
By the time Sports Day had come to an end it was clear that it has been an unwavering success with Bredon being crowned the Sports Day Champions.
The success of Sports Day is a testament to the exceptional sportsmanship of each and every pupil that took part, either physically or within the stands. Each pupil and member of staff played a vital role in creating an unforgettable event. Roll on Sports Day 2025.
On Tuesday 18th June, 7M2 had a fantastic day at the University of Birmingham. The purpose of the visit was to broaden our understanding about the emerging world of Artificial Intelligence. We looked at both the positives and dangers of AI and how we can develop our skill set to thrive in a modern society. Our pupils represented the school superbly well and we all had a really great day!
A key part of our Careers Programme is to give every Key Stage 3 pupil a chance to experience a taster day at university. This mission continued with an enjoyable trip to the University of Worcester. Pupils learnt more about what university has to offer and explored a day in the life of a student. They enjoyed a Campus Tour, which opened their eyes to the range of facilities on offer at a university, visiting lecture theatres, the Student’s Union, the Wellbeing Hub, the Sports Centre and Student Accommodation.
Year 12 students with an interest in pursuing healthcare careers visited Birmingham Women’s Hospital to take part in Basic Life Support Training. Students used the specialist training facilities to learn about effective CPR, the safe use of an AED and how to prevent choking. After testing their skills, the students then received certificates. All 12 students are now ready to help save a life.
Pupils in Key Stage 3, with an interested in pursing careers in the construction industry, got a sneak peek behind the scenes of our new build project. Pupils had the chance to meet with the contractors transforming C Block into new office spaces. Our pupils have aspirations to pursue careers as builders, plasters, electricians, plumbers and architects. They were able to see the progress made so far and gain advice about the varied and exciting careers in the industry.

Year 10 Football Cup Final - Barr Beacon 2-5 Walsall Academy
Match Report: Walsall started the game extremely well with a beautiful worked goal for their left winger. After an avoidable mistake at the back for Barr Beacon it was the left winger who pulled out Walsall’s second of the day. Shortly after a counter attack Barr beacon put K.Jacques through, after dribbling past the keeper he hit the side
After half time Beacon came out stronger than ever and with beautiful passing and teamwork it was O.Nash to take the ball round the keeper like he wasn’t there and place the ball into the goal. After another 10 minutes of domination in Beacon’s favour the players had thought they had done it with a shot blocked of the line from N.Siadatan. It was then Walsall’s turn and with a swift counter attack and an unbelievable dribble from the Walsall’s number 10 resulted in the 3rd goal for Walsall. After a 4th goal went in for Walsall, Beacon’s heads dropped and Walsall’s score turned from 4 to 5. Very late into injury time L. Kemp pulled of a consolation goal after a poor pass from the opposition keeper.

From Friday 24th May - Sunday 26th May Year 10 pupils completed their practice silver expedition in Church Stretton and on the Long Mynd. Pupils were tasked with erecting their own tents on Friday and then packing them down on Saturday morning to complete their walk where they had to self navigate as a group on a route that would bring them back to camp.
Pupils worked as a team through some extremely hot weather to navigate back to camp where they pitched their own tents again and cooked their meals for the evening.
There were some great budding chefs amongst the group with some delicious meals being cooked.
It was lovely to see pupils cooking meals for their friends and then sitting down to dine together after long hard days walk.
Pupils made the most of the blissful evening and used a stick that they had found along with a tennis ball and created their own game of cricket.
Once pupils had exhausted every ounce of energy, they settled into their sleeping bags ahead of the downpour we were to expect.. And boy did it downpour.
A few spots on the tops of the tent were followed by a few hours of rain that made the morning wake up that much harder. But this didn't phase our silver Duke of Edinburgh candidates.
Each pupil was up, cooking breakfast for the day ahead and already packing down their tents without the need to be asked by any staff.
Pupils were briefed on their walk and they were set off on their journey back to Church Stretton train station where the coach would be waiting to take them home.
The weather was kind on Sunday with beautiful rays of sunshine make the trek much more pleasant and easier to navigate.
Pupils were able to successfully navigate back to Church Stretton before the rain poured down once again.
A fantastic weekend witnessing some huge successes from our pupils.
Well done to tall those who took part.
