Art work

In Art lessons last week, Year 7 pupils produced a pencil drawing of the Barr Beacon Memorial. This drawing was focusing on the tones within the image. Year 8 pupils produced a pencil drawing of a boiled sweet. This drawing was focusing on how to draw in proportion and the tones within the image.

Year 9 pupils produced experimental portrait drawing. They did continuous line drawings, opposite hand drawings, blind drawings and caricatures to start building confidence to produce a portrait drawing.

Autumn Attendance Rewards

We are proud of our pupils’ resilience to commit to excellent attendance because we know it can make such a difference to pupils’ achievement. At Barr Beacon School, we recognise this resilience with awards for 100% attendance for the Autumn Term and the opportunity to enter our prize draw to win vouchers.

Congratulations to all pupils who received their certificate and also entered our prize draw - and ‘well done’ to those pupils who were lucky enough to win vouchers. We look forward to our pupils showing their resilience again in Spring to once again have excellent attendance together at Barr Beacon School.

BCDH Workshop

On Thursday 9th January, all of the Year 10 and Year 11 BTEC Dancers took part in the Black Country Dance Hub Careers day.   The day involved pupils taking part in 4 exciting workshops with dance companies, colleges and universities and learning about all of the future career pathways Dance can offer.   Barr Beacon School was very lucky to get a workshop with Motionhouse, Liverpool institute of Performing Arts, Fabric and BOA.

Pupils also were able to walk round the ‘Dance Marketplace’ which included Universities and Colleges that offered Dance courses in the area and beyond. Our Barr Beacon Dancers were fantastic ambassadors for the school by asking many questions and getting involved in every workshop. Mrs Downes and Mrs Parkes were incredibly proud of the dancers and their professionalism -  they were all a credit to the school, demonstrating our Beacon values.

Dance Workshop

On Wednesday 8th January, Lincoln University came to Barr Beacon to deliver a Dance workshop to a selection of our Year 9 pupils. The session began with pupils learning some contemporary dance techniques, before learning a contemporary dance phrase. Pupils then worked together in groups to complete choreography challenges. Lincoln Uni staff had primarily planned to give each group 3 challenges each. However, our students showed a high level of skill and ambition, resulting in them completing even more challenges!
